Horseback Riding on Kiso’s Own Breed of Horses.
Kiso River Valley
Description
Enjoy Nagano's great outdoors by horseback riding on a native Kiso Horse in Kaida Kogen!
Recommendation
The Kiso Horse ("Kiso-uma") is one of 8 breeds of horses native to Japan. Since 1976, there has been a pedigree registration in Kaida Kogen, the high-elevation plateau on the side of Mt. Ontake. Sized more like a pony, the Kiso Horse has been raised in their namesake Kiso Valley for over a 1,000 years, mainly for use in farming and transportation but also for the battlefield.
At the Kiso Uma no Sato horse ranch, visitors can go for a horse ride on a Kiso Horse. With their shorter stature and kind disposition, Kiso Horses are suitable for even children as young as 2 to ride.
